Religious Education

Our teachers are dedicated volunteers who strive to teach our children to love, serve, and obey God. (All our teachers have completed safe environment training)  We teach the Catholic Church doctrine, the Sacraments, and the Bible.  God should be first in our lives.  Of course, we also know that parents are the primary teachers to their children.  We stress that all parents should lead by example by; praying at home together with your children, coming to Mass every week and being part of the parish community.  We are striving to become Saints!

Religous Education Classes for Grades Pre-K thru 8th Grade.  Classes are held on Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 9:50 a.m.  Our school year will begin September 20, 2020 and continues thru May 9, 2021.  Open enrollment begins in the summer.  If your child was not baptized at St. Stan's please provide their baptismal certificate (this can be obtained by calling the parish of baptism).  If your child has not been baptized contact Father Bob, he will happily meet with you.

Sacraments of First Reconcilation & First Communion:  2nd Grade students prepare to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion as part of their curriculum, children who wish to receive these sacraments must complete 1st grade religious ed. class.  If your child is in 3rd grade above, and wishes to receive these sacraments, please contact Kathy Henderson.  This year First Communion Mass is scheduled for:  MAY 2, 2021

Confirmation:  7th & 8th grade students.  Confirmation is offered at St. Stan's every other year and is taught by Father Bob.  Preparation for this sacrament consists of regular Mass attendance, participation in Religious Ed. class sessions, work on an individual project, going on a retreat, and completing the Theology of the Body curriculum.  Students must present their baptismal and first communion certificates when registering.  2021 Confirmation will be April 23rd, at 7:00 p.m. and will take place at Holy Family Church, South Bend.

Safe Environment Training:  during the first half of the school year all students through 8th grade will take part in safe environment training.  While it is mandated, we know that this is important personal safety information that every child should have.  The main points that are covered are:  God made us and loves us - God made our bodies, we each have personal space, we should treat others and ourselves with respect and care, some touches are safe and some are not, we have warning signs ("sirens") when we are in danger, if ever in danger, not being respected, or touched in an unsafe way - Get Away, get help from an adult - telling and asking until you get the help you need, there are adults in your life to care for and protect you.  If you as a parent have any questions or want to review any of the training materials please contact Kathy Henderson.  If you choose not to have your child in class for the presentation, you will need to sign the parent refuasal form and return it to your child's teacher.  Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring the protection of all our cildren!

Theology of the Body:  is a curriculum based on St. John Paull II's 129 lectures given during his Wednesday audiences in St. Peter's Square.  It is not just a chastity program; it is St. John Paul II's vision of the human person.  This truly engaging curriculum is required for all middle-school tudents in our diocese.
